Fire in the Sky

I got up at 3am and hiked hard uphill for hours to earn this sunrise. I could hear John Denver singing “Rocky Mountain High” as I watched these colors change he was writing about a meteor shower, but this sure did look like fire in the sky, so I sang it anyways.

Hiking Hand in Hand

8″x10″These girls are so strong, and so sweet. I loved that they were hiking holding hands on the amount Massive Trail. However, if I were to be completely honest, I painted this because their shadows look like little yetis, and the shape delighted me.

I have been playing with abstraction in my art. I find simplified color and detail to be so beautiful and pleasing to the eye. I love how a few swipes of color can suggest a chick.

Today I painted a live demo at the Baylor Sammons Cancer Center. They have an amazing program for cancer patients, and as they say, medical treatment is just a small slice of the pie. I am honored to be part of their arts and medicine program.

That spec in the top half of the frame is my fledgling learning to fly!
