Spring Growth

8″ square panel

“I believe in process. I believe in four seasons. I believe that winter’s tough, but spring’s coming. I believe that there’s a growing season. And I think that you realize that in life, you grow. You get better.” -Steve Southerland

Bee Tree Vineyard

10″x8″ oil on panel

I finished this plein air study (see below) and it was a fail. It was a beautiful day at a vineyard, but the painting didn’t turn out. Why? I botched the values. So today I added some darks into the trees, and a few strokes that represent a plein air painter.

This was the last day of my recent oil painting workshop. It ended with wine tasting! What a fun day.

Hope to teach this workshop again next spring!!! It was such a great setting.

Clouds Floating By

8″x4″ oil on panel

Plein air – New Ulm, TX

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer’s day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time. -John Lubbock

Teal and Away

I am so happy with the way this one turned out. I love the highlights on the cows, they didn’t photograph great. Beautiful little specs of color that just delight me. Also, the horizon shouldn’t work this high, but, somehow, it does!

Truths and Roses

7″x5″ pastel on sanded paper

“Truths and roses have thorns about them.” –Henry David Thoreau

April is transplant month. I got to paint with all the transplant nurses at Baylor! Without exception, they are amazing, delightful, miracle workers.
