Busy

4” square oil

Please enjoy a celebration of pink paintings this month, in honor of breast cancer awareness. I paint for my friends and family who have fought the good fight against cancer, for their families, and for all caregivers who help along with the journey toward a healthy self (body, soul, and spirit). In my strokes of pink, are prayers of strength and healing. While painting at the hospital, I had a wonderful conversation with an oncology researcher. She works on breast cancer tumors on the lab side of things. I am so grateful for smart scientist. Today, I remember her and the lab she runs.

Painting demo
12”x36”x2 original oil on canvas

Last night I painted a demo for the Rockwall Art League! what a great group of artists. They were so engaged in my process the painting seemed to paint itself.

Fireworks in Paris

4” square original oil

This is a good example of looking at something with a different perspective. I have never seen the Eiffel Tower in real life. I have, however, seen fireworks over many Texas lakes, lakes small enough that you can see the tree line across the water. That is what I originally painted, and because I didn’t sign it while it was wet, I tried it different orientations. I love it turned! My imagination turned the horizon into a spire – ta-da! I will post the original orientation below. Also, it is painted on arches oil paper. If there is an art person out there that explain how paper gives me the most wonderful flow of paint, and crisp brush strokes I would like to know. Why does primed canvas absorb more paint than paper???

Little Flowers

4” oil

I have been working BIG and TINY. I wish this were huge, but it is tiny, and after I painted it, I loved it each orientation.

Four Stream Ahead

2’x4’ oil on canvas

Pink is my favorite underpainting color, I find it looks so beautiful under almost all landscape paintings, and I love when it peeks out through the upper layers of paint. I can’t wait to add color to the bones of this painting, and it looks kind of cool at this stage. – sort of unfinished and graphic.

Important Work

It is not how busy you are, but why you are busy — the bee is praised, the mosquito is swatted.

Today I paint for Amy LupPlace Gillispie. She did important work. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and artist. She was unbelievably creative. She did all her important work for the last decade with breast cancer. She was brave, strong, and so beautiful. Hands down, she looked better without hair than ever man woman or baby I have ever seen, she was soooo beautiful. Our community won’t be the same without her, RIP.
