Happy Field

10″x8″ pastel on sanded paper

“Happiness radiates like the fragrance from a flower and draws all good things towards you.” -Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Howdy Blue

14″x11″ pastel on sanded paper

“It’s not only the state flower but also a kind of floral trademark almost as well known to outsiders as cowboy boots and the Stetson hat. The bluebonnet is to Texas what the shamrock is to Ireland, the cherry blossom to Japan, the lily to France, the rose to England and the tulip to Holland.” Wrote historian Jack Maguire

The season is short, I plan to make the most of it.

Dallas: Inside Out – A Sailor’s Perspective

10″x8″ oil on panel

Dallas has a beautiful lake right in the center of the city.  White Rock Lake.  It has a path that goes all around, about 10 miles of pedaling (or running) to circumnavigate.  Most of us enjoy this treasure of wildlife, beauty and community from the shores.  We cook out, picnic, run, bike, play, and the lucky…paint.  The sailers however, are looking back at us.   They see Dallas from the inside out.

Queen Anne’s Way

12″x18″ pastel on sanded paper

This painting was from a photo, painted in my daughters’ dance studio not my art studio.  I grabbed a small palette of colors, taped a paper to a board and headed to their class.  I find I have lots of time to paint, if I am creative where I look.

Queen Anne’s Walk

12″x18″ pastel on sanded paper

Queen Anne’s lace is all over fields and road sides where I live right now.  It is tall and willowy, and wild.

I love painting in the middle of such fields.  Even when conditions are challenging.

Wind: check

Snakes: thankfully, not today

Chiggers: double check

Early Morning Mirror

18″x12″

This painting captures beautiful morning light on my pond.  Below are my studies.  I tried toning the paper with 3 different colors and doing small studies to see which color I preferred.  I went with the lavender, which was I interesting because I would have guessed the orange or yellow orange would have been my preference.
