Painted Desert In Full Color
Lull’d in these flowers

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull’d in these flowers with dances and delight.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2.1.255-60)
-William Shakespeare
I was Puck in a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” in high school, it is surprising how much of the script is still in my head.
Golden Fields
Sunset 7:46
Marigold, to tangerine
a hint of lavender fade.
Bright orb center scene,
For no other would I trade
Lakeshore water calming
Slowly falling behind
Feeling all my wanting,
Worry’s string unwind.
Pure, Naked, Beauty.
Right before my eyes
Like a bright red ruby
Light slowly dies.
More blue to violet in the sky
Sparkling specks come to sight
As if to replace the orb’s supply
Flickering, shining, vast glitter light
Gone once more, but not for long
Tomorrow’s day another bright song.
-Mary Alice Sallman
