“Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven’t time, and to see takes time – like to have a friend takes time.” Georgia O’Keeffe

Growing up there were two families on our street who had three girls. My mom has two sisters. I am grateful that all of my sisters have grown out of close friendships, for all three sets of sisters I knew as a child “fought like cats” as my mom would say.

You have two more days left in the Valentines flower sale! I have a dozen original flowers that I have painted and are ready to ship. There is only one of each, so shop early if you have a favorite. Each painting is $100 and includes free shipping within in the US. They will be beautifully packaged and will arrive in plenty of time for Valentines. Please let me know if I can include a gift message.

Who is this, so tall and slender
Like a graceful maiden fair,
By the roadside in the sunshine
With her locks of yellow hair?
See you how she leans and listens
To the west wind wand’ring by
As the sun god calls and woos her
Stands the bashful maiden shy?
Must I tell you in her splendor
Her quaint old-fashioned name?
Would you know her when you meet her
With her tawny yellow mane?
Arthur Bernstein (May 9,1953 / New York, New York)

I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,
Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,
Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,
With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:
There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,
Lull’d in these flowers with dances and delight.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream (2.1.255-60)
-William Shakespeare
I was Puck in a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” in high school, it is surprising how much of the script is still in my head.
