White Rock Lake 11″x14″

I painted the above painting from a color study, which allowed me to reach “zone” really quickly with all my colors preselected and my problems mostly worked out in the study.  Think of a color study like a rough draft.  This one is a 5″x7″.

  2. Beautiful! I lived for three years on an acre just above the spillway, and this is how it looked early in the morning.

  3. This is helpful and encouraging. I seem to have an aversion to working on the same thing multiple times–though I have done it a few times, but never thinking of the first version as a study. Still having to remind myself that perfection is not the goal–learning and growing is.
